Water and Wastewater Network Infrastructure
Utvidelse av Drivenesøya grunnvannsanlegg
Water and wastewater networks call for expertise across many disciplines, from stormwater and flooding to long-term asset planning. Asplan Viak is one of Norway’s leading players in the field, working across the full breadth of network design and management.
Network Design
Design of water and wastewater pipeline networks includes developing master plans, network modelling, assessing sustainable stormwater management, and multidisciplinary design alongside roads, landscape architecture and other technical disciplines.
Strategic Planning and Asset Management
Asplan Viak has solid expertise and extensive experience in strategic planning for water and wastewater systems, particularly rehabilitation plans and master plans, helping address many of the challenges municipalities face. We have been one of the main contributors to developing the DiVA methodology, a leading approach to producing master and rehabilitation plans, built on 15 years of research collaboration across Europe. We use GIS and modelling tools throughout our planning work.
Stormwater Management
Managing stormwater through underground pipes has left cities and towns vulnerable to flooding. Many municipalities also face a significant maintenance backlog on their wastewater systems, with capacity often stretched to the limit, and these challenges are expected to grow with climate change, urban densification and tightening water quality requirements. Open stormwater management makes it possible to treat water as a resource for irrigation, play, learning, recreation, and for supporting biodiversity in the landscape.
We work across disciplines, hydrogeologists, water and wastewater engineers and landscape architects, to develop solutions that bring water to the surface and put it to use. Our services include:
- Master plans and municipal area plans for stormwater
- Sizing and design of stormwater solutions for building and road projects
- Stream daylighting
- Urban flood pathways
- Rain gardens, blue-green roofs and detention solutions
- Stormwater management under BREEAM
- Stormwater modelling
NoDig (Trenchless) Methods
Asplan Viak has extensive experience designing pipeline projects that require little or no excavation, known as NoDig methods. These are especially well suited where excavation isn’t practical or possible, and often outperform traditional excavation on cost, environmental impact and schedule, in some cases making trenchless methods the best solution even for new installations.
As advisers, we support method selection and design of NoDig solutions wherever a project is located, including project support, method assessment, concept and preliminary design, cost estimation and tender documentation.
