Asplan Viak is committed to reporting against a triple bottom line, with clear targets for financial results as well as the environmental and social impacts of our operations. Our most important tool for reaching these goals is an organization dedicated to influencing one another, our clients and our suppliers, so that we consistently choose sustainable solutions and technologies.
Our climate footprint
We measure and reduce our own climate footprint. Efficient offices, cutting unnecessary travel and conscious consumption are central to reaching our targets.

Networks and partnerships
Asplan Viak actively contributes to networks for sustainable societal development, seeking knowledge and expertise that challenge and complement our own. Participation in the UN Global Compact is particularly important, while local networks and partnerships also provide opportunities for inspiration, shared insight and positive change. Each year, we submit a Communication on Progress report to the UN Global Compact, describing our sustainability work.
Values and commitments
Through our participation in the UN Global Compact, we have committed to 10 principles for responsible business conduct, covering fundamental human rights, labour standards, anti-corruption and the environment. Asplan Viak is also subject to the Norwegian Transparency Act, which governs businesses’ transparency and work on fundamental human rights and decent working conditions. By living up to our values and commitments, we help safeguard fundamental human rights and decent working conditions within our own operations, our supply chain, and among our business partners, both nationally and internationally.
We recognize that we may uncover negative impacts on people, society and the environment, and can play a role in stopping, preventing or reducing such impacts.
Transparency
We apply a risk-based approach through due diligence assessments in the work described above. As a starting point, we set baseline requirements for our suppliers and business partners, as outlined in our transparency declaration. Each year, effective from 2023, we publish an account of our work under the Transparency Act, our Statement on Due Diligence Assessments. At Asplan Viak, we aim to develop and apply expertise that raises the quality of decisions and solutions for our clients and for society. We see it as our responsibility to foster dialogue and collaboration between the different actors shaping society, and to actively contribute to finding good answers and solutions to the challenges we face. We make firm, concrete commitments to our clients, and set aside 4% of revenue for sustainable innovation and development.
Our principles for good business conduct state that we are to facilitate strong environmental quality across our projects. We operate a management system covering quality (ISO 9001) and environment (ISO 14001), and are certified to both standards. We work continuously to improve our routines and results relating to environmental and climate considerations in our assignments.
Environmental and climate measures are also essential in our own operations. We carry out annual climate accounting and work steadily on measures to reduce our environmental impact. Our priority areas are: office operations, technology, travel and procurement.
Our sustainable procurement guidelines require that purchases be needs-assessed, that reuse and recycling always be considered, and that environmental performance requirements be applied. Asplan Viak prefers suppliers and manufacturers who can document environmental certification under ISO 14001, EMAS, Eco-Lighthouse, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel or similar, and who work actively to reduce their climate and environmental impact. We seek out and prioritize purchasing products that are environmentally friendly, recyclable, repairable and have minimal lifecycle impact, and that hold a valid licence under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, EU Ecolabel, Blue Angel or an equivalent Type 1 ecolabel.
